If Presidential Candidates Were Social Media Sites

What if each of the remaining Presidential candidates were a social media site? This is an interesting question well worth asking. Each of the candidates not only has a completely unique personality, but also has a way of reaching out to their tech-savvy supporters via the most popular social media networks.

Clinton = Facebook

One of the first sites that comes to people’s minds when they hear about social media is Facebook, and Hillary Clinton is like Facebook in many ways. For example:

  • Facebook leads in experience when it comes perfecting social media; with Hillary, she’s got loads of political experience, there’s no doubt about that.
  • Fan of hers or not, she always finds a way to make it into headlines at the most unlikely times doing the most unlikely of things, such as her NYC subway trip and the resulting Metro Card issue.
  • No matter what you think of her, she’s going to be a major force in the political world for many years, just as Facebook will continue to shape and define the digital world.

Sanders = YouTube

Social media and Bernie Sanders seem to be a match made in political heaven, especially when it comes to video content. This makes him and YouTube the perfect pairing:

  • YouTube videos are everywhere, and Sanders, much like the site, is always generating a lot of buzz from both fans and critics.
  • YouTube is where video content has the most potential to go viral, and Sanders’ presence on social media helps keep his campaign in the spotlight.
  • Nothing gets the attention of a young audience like YouTube clips, and Sanders definitely has their attention with his policies and personality.
  • Sanders, like YouTube, continues to prove that all it takes is a littie bit of momentum to shake things up and stay top of mind with the public.

Trump = Twitter

Donald Trump’s presence on Twitter is a good indicator of how fast-paced and game-changing his campaign has been. Consider this:

  • Trump is known for his bold, unscripted statements that don’t hold back – what platform exemplifies this better than Twitter?
  • Quick, sharp responses to challengers (that may require some fact-checking) makes Twitter perfect for his political platform.
  • Twitter is good at attracting the unusual, and Trump’s campaign has been far from usual from the very beginning.
  • Regardless of your political leanings, Trump’s campaigns various twists and turns are a lot like reading your Twitter feed – or at least a highly publicized celebrity Twitter war.

Kasich = LinkedIn

John Kasich has been marketed as an established candidate with strong political experience, making him most like LinkedIn:

  • Having executive experience as a governor makes a difference in politics, just as LinkedIn’s position as the go-to social media site for experienced job-seekers makes a difference in future employment.
  • Kasich’s position as a politician who has largely avoided the fray makes him a lot like the professional atmosphere that LinkedIn provides its users.
  • Just as LinkedIn promotes a potential employee’s skill sets, Kasich wants the world to know that his skill set as a governor would make if the perfect candidate for Commander in Chief.
  • Kasich, who isn’t the most dramatic candidate, serves as proof that all work and no play can still get you into the White House.

Cruz = Reddit

Ted Cruz often finds himself in a tight spot where both sides are concerned, which many Reddit users can identify with. Here’s how he’s most like this online media site:

  • Engage in controversial, hot-button issues and you can be sure both sides of the aisle will jump in feet first to voice their opinion – Cruz as well as Redditors know this all too well.
  • Everything you say in a social setting will be scrutinized, and Cruz has dealt with this challenge countless times, such as the dispute between his wife and Trump’s wife.
  • Redditors respond to people’s questions and complaints fairly quickly, just as Cruz rises to difficult challenges immediately.
  • Despite differences in beliefs or concern about his qualifications, it’s hard not to watch how he responds to political attacks just like you can’t stay away from a debate on a SubReddit about your favorite show.

Each of the candidates has a social media platform that matches there personality in some unique way. Whether we love ’em or go out of our way to avoid them, there’s no denying the strong connections these candidates have with the world’s most popular social media sites.
